The Ultimate Guide to High-Protein Snacking in the UAE

Discover how high-protein snacks can fuel your active lifestyle in the UAE — and why BeFit Protein Blast bars are a game-changer.

Introduction

If you've been to a gym in Dubai recently, you've probably noticed something. Half the people there are clutching a protein bar between sets. The other half are arguing about which one tastes the least like cardboard.

Protein snacking has become a thing. A real thing. And the UAE has caught on faster than most places.

But there's a problem. Most of the protein bars you find here taste terrible, cost too much, or both. So we wanted to write something honest about what high-protein snacking actually is, why it matters, and how to choose a bar that doesn't make you regret your life choices.

Why protein matters more than you think

Most people think about protein in terms of building muscle. That's not wrong, but it's only part of the story.

Protein keeps you full. That's the underrated part. If you've ever eaten a "healthy" snack at 11am and been hungry again by noon, the issue is usually that the snack had no protein in it. Carbs and fat alone won't keep your body satisfied for long.

Protein also helps with recovery, energy levels, and even sleep. If you exercise regularly, you need more of it than you think. The standard recommendation is around 1.2 to 2 grams per kilo of bodyweight if you're active. For someone weighing 70kg, that's 84 to 140 grams of protein a day. Hitting that with food alone is hard, especially in a city like Dubai where most options are either heavy carb-based meals or salads with barely any protein at all.

That's where protein snacks come in. Not as a replacement for real food, but as a way to fill the gaps.

The problem with most protein bars in the UAE

Walk into any supermarket in Dubai and look at the protein bar shelf. You'll find dozens of options, mostly imported, mostly expensive, and most of them with one of these problems:

Too much sugar. A lot of "protein" bars are basically candy bars with a few grams of protein added in. Always check the label. If sugar is in the top three ingredients, it's not really a protein snack.

Bad texture. Some bars are so dry you need a glass of water for every bite. Others are so sticky they pull out your fillings. Neither is enjoyable.

Awful taste. Protein has a flavour. If you don't process it right, the bar tastes chalky or metallic. A lot of brands don't bother fixing this.

Unrealistic price. Some imported bars cost AED 15 to 20 each. At that price, you may as well just cook chicken.

What to look for instead

A good protein bar should hit a few specific things:

  • At least 12 grams of protein per serving. Below that and you're not really getting much benefit.
  • Low sugar. Ideally under 5 grams. Some sweetness is fine, but it shouldn't be candy.
  • Clean ingredients. You should be able to read the label without needing a chemistry degree.
  • Decent calories. Around 150 to 250 per bar is sensible for a snack. Too few and you'll be hungry. Too many and it stops being a snack.
  • Actually tastes good. This sounds obvious but most bars fail here.

How BeFit fits into all this

We make BeFit because we got tired of the same complaints. The bars on the shelves were either expensive imports or local options that didn't taste good. So we built something different.

BeFit Protein Blast bars come in three flavours right now: Chocolate Fudge, Crunchy Peanut Butter, and Cookies and Cream. Each one has 15g of protein, low sugar, and a soft texture that doesn't feel like a punishment to eat.

We also make BeFit Keto for people on a low carb diet. That's a separate range with breads, muffins, and pita wraps, all keto-friendly. And BeFit Soft Baked for people who want something a bit more indulgent without giving up the protein.

Everything is made in our Dubai facility, halal certified, and delivered fresh across the UAE. No three-week shipping from another continent, no questionable storage conditions in transit.

When to actually eat a protein bar

A few practical tips because nobody talks about this part.

As a post-workout snack. This is the obvious one. Within an hour of training is when your body uses protein most efficiently.

Mid-afternoon energy slump. Better than reaching for something sugary. The protein keeps you stable until dinner.

Travel snack. Long flights, road trips, days running between meetings. A protein bar in your bag is genuinely useful.

Late breakfast replacement. Not ideal as a daily habit, but better than skipping food entirely.

Don't use it as dinner. A protein bar isn't a meal. Two of them isn't a meal either. They're snacks. Treat them like that.

The bottom line

High-protein snacking isn't a fad. If you're active, busy, or just trying to eat better, getting more protein into your day is one of the simplest changes you can make. The trick is choosing snacks that actually taste good and don't sneak in extra sugar.

If you want to try BeFit, you can shop the full range here. Start with the Chocolate Fudge if you can't decide. It's the one that converts most sceptics.
