Best Protein Bars in the UAE 2026: An Honest Comparison

We compared the top protein bars available in the UAE in 2026. Macros, taste, price, ingredients. An honest guide to choosing the right protein bar for you.

Introduction

Walk into any major supermarket in the UAE and you'll see the same thing. A wall of protein bars. Twenty different brands, half of them imported, prices ranging from AED 6 to AED 25 each, and packaging that all looks somehow identical and somehow completely different at the same time.

If you've ever stood in front of that wall trying to figure out which one to actually buy, this post is for you.

We've spent the last few months looking at what's actually available in the UAE in 2026. Not just the popular ones, but the underdogs too. We compared macros, ingredients, taste, price, and the things that matter to people who buy protein bars regularly. This is what we found.

Quick disclosure: we make BeFit, so yes we have a stake in this. We've tried to be fair anyway. If you don't trust us, that's okay. Use this as a starting point and judge for yourself.

What actually makes a protein bar good?

Before we get into specific brands, let's set some criteria. A protein bar isn't just about how much protein it has. There are at least five things that matter.

Protein content. Obvious one. We say at least 12g per bar to be worth calling a protein bar. Below that you're really just eating a slightly healthier candy bar.

Sugar content. This is where most bars fail. A "protein" bar with 18g of sugar isn't really helping you. We look for under 6g of sugar per bar, ideally lower.

Ingredient quality. Read the back of the packet. If you see a list of 30 things you can't pronounce, that's a red flag. Better bars have shorter lists with real ingredients.

Taste and texture. This is subjective but important. A bar you don't enjoy is a bar you won't eat. There's no point buying nutrition you don't actually consume.

Price per gram of protein. This is the metric most people don't calculate. A AED 18 bar with 12g of protein is way worse value than a AED 9 bar with 15g. We did the math so you don't have to.

The protein bar landscape in the UAE right now

Before diving into specific brands, here's how the UAE market breaks down.

The shelves are dominated by imported brands. Quest, Optimum Nutrition, Grenade, Bombbar, MyProtein. These have been around forever and most people grab them by default. They're decent but they're expensive (usually AED 12 to 20 per bar), and they're often sitting on warm warehouse shelves for months before they reach you.

Then there's a growing tier of local UAE brands, which is what got us into this category in the first place. Made in the region, fresher, often better priced, and usually more in tune with local taste preferences (less artificial sweetness, more natural flavours, halal certified). This is where BeFit sits.

Finally there's the supermarket private label stuff. Carrefour, Choithrams, Spinneys all have their own protein bars now. Cheaper but lower protein and worse ingredients in most cases. Worth knowing about but not what you want for daily snacking.

Our honest comparison: 6 bars worth knowing

We picked six options that represent the spread of what's available right now. Not the only ones worth trying, but a decent cross-section.

1. BeFit Protein Blast & BeFit Protein Cake Bars (UAE-made)

Ours. So take this with the appropriate grain of salt.

We actually make two different protein lines because we think they serve different occasions.

BeFit Protein Blast is the classic protein bar format. 15g of protein, low sugar, single serve at 45g. Three flavours right now: Yogurt Cheesecake, Crunchy Peanut Butter, and Mango Sticky Rice with Coconut. Around AED 9 per bar. This is the everyday option, grab one, throw it in your bag, eat it post-workout or mid-afternoon.

BeFit Protein Cake Bars are something different. Instead of a dense protein bar, these are more like a soft cake bar with two textures inside. Same 15g of protein, but a completely different eating experience, closer to a dessert than a workout snack. Six flavours: Acai & Blueberry Cheesecake, Pistachio, Ginger & Lemon Cheesecake, Chocolate Fudge, Black Forest, and Strawberry Cheesecake. Sold in 3-packs for around AED 25 per box. This is the option when you want protein but don't want to feel like you're eating a "fitness" product.

Both are made in our Dubai facility, halal certified, with low sugar and clean ingredients.

What we like: Two different formats for two different needs. Soft, real-cake texture in the Cake Bars. Genuinely good flavours that don't taste like supplement powder.

What could be better: The Blast range only has three flavours right now. We're working on expanding it.

Best for: Protein Blast for daily quick snacking. Cake Bars when you want something more indulgent that still hits your protein goals.

2. Quest Bars (US import)

The OG protein bar for many people. 21g of protein, low sugar, lots of flavours.

What we like: Very high protein. Massive flavour selection. Good macros for low-carb diets.

What could be better: Texture is famously chewy and dense. Some find them hard to eat. Expensive at around AED 15 to 18 per bar. Imported, so freshness varies.

Best for: Macro tracking, low carb diets, people who don't mind the chewy texture.

3. Grenade Carb Killa (UK import)

Popular in UAE gyms. Coated in chocolate so it eats more like a candy bar.

What we like: Tastes great. Genuinely indulgent. 20g protein.

What could be better: Higher in sugar alcohols than some prefer, which can cause stomach issues for sensitive people. Expensive at AED 14 to 17.

Best for: People who want a treat-like protein bar and don't mind paying for it.

4. Bombbar (Russian import, popular in UAE)

Aggressive marketing, popular with younger gym-goers in Dubai. Around 20g protein.

What we like: Decent macros. Lots of variety.

What could be better: Texture is hit or miss. Some flavours taste artificial. Mid-range price.

Best for: Trying something different. Not our top pick but not a bad option.

5. Optimum Nutrition Protein Crisp (US import)

A more recent entry. Crispy texture, around 20g protein.

What we like: Different texture than the chewy norm. Tastes good.

What could be better: Among the most expensive options at AED 16 to 20. Sometimes hard to find consistent stock.

Best for: People who hate chewy bars and want something crunchy.

6. Carrefour / Spinneys Private Label

The cheap option. Around AED 5 to 7 per bar, usually 8 to 12g protein.

What we like: Cheap. Convenient if you're already shopping there.

What could be better: Lower protein, often higher sugar. Generic flavours. Not really competing on quality.

Best for: Budget eaters who want some protein in their day without spending much.

So which one should you actually buy?

Honestly, it depends on what you care about most.

If you want best value (protein per dirham): BeFit Protein Blast. We're not just saying that because we make it. The math just works out that way at AED 9 for 15g of protein.

If you want a protein snack that feels like a real dessert: BeFit Protein Cake Bars. The texture is way closer to actual cake than any other "protein" product we've tried.

If you want maximum protein and don't mind chewy: Quest Bars.

If you want the most candy-like experience: Grenade Carb Killa.

If you want crispy instead of chewy: Optimum Nutrition Protein Crisp.

If you're on a tight budget: Carrefour private label, but expect a drop in quality.

Things to watch out for

A few things we noticed during our research that you should know about:

"Protein" doesn't mean healthy. Some bars marketed as protein bars are loaded with sugar, palm oil, and additives. Always check the back of the packet, not the front.

Imported bars can sit in warehouses forever. Check the expiry date when you buy. We've seen bars in UAE supermarkets that were already 8+ months old.

Sugar alcohols vs real sugar. Most "low sugar" bars use sugar alcohols like maltitol or erythritol. These are technically lower in calories but can cause bloating or stomach issues if you're sensitive. Worth knowing.

Halal matters in the UAE. Not all imported bars are halal certified, even if they don't contain obvious non-halal ingredients. If that matters to you, check.

The bottom line

There's no single "best" protein bar in the UAE. There's the best one for your goals, your budget, and your taste. The good news is the market has gotten way better over the last few years. There are more good options at every price point than there used to be.

Our honest recommendation: try a couple of different brands, including local ones like BeFit. Find what works for you. And don't fall for the trap of paying AED 18 for an imported bar that's been sitting on a shelf for six months when there's a fresher, cheaper, equally good option made down the road.

If you want to try BeFit, you can shop the full Protein Blast and Protein Cake Bar range here. The Chocolate Fudge Cake Bar or the Crunchy Peanut Butter Blast are the easiest first tries.
